Hiking food on the Great Ocean WalkWe didn't want to go too hard-core with our hiking food on this trip in terms of carry-weight, but it was still a consideration.
Early on I decided I would make a trip down the Great Ocean Road to place food drop buckets along our intended hike route. Using the GOW kml file I'd found online in Google Earth, I figured out which campsites I could get to (or near) by car, and settled on 5 food-drops. With that, settled Beth got busy and figured out our meal plans, what went in each bucket, and what we would both be carrying each day. I got busy planning the trip to drop them out. |
Two weeks out from the hike, I set out with our youngest daughter, Brooke, for an overnighter to place the food drops. Brooke agreed to do the chauffeuring to get her hours up. Whilst I had a general idea of where I would be placing the buckets, the final locations were decided when I got there (I made sure I took photos and made detailed notes for each drop so I would be able to find them again).
Brooke and I had a great time!
